You read the THIRD book FIRST?

OK...yes, my bad. I said "Eclipse", but meant "Twilight." I've modified my original post accordingly. Sorry. My wife had Eclipse sitting on our desk at the time I was posting and I must've been distracted. That's my excuse.
I will probably go through the remaining books this summer and (once my wife finishes it) read the fourth book coming out this summer.
I think the characterization was great. The focus was definitely more on the relationships and the characters than the action and intense world of the vampires. I don't think the approach was wrong or bad...just different.
And apparently it was different in a way that an audience wanted because it's been successful. It's funny...I was out at B&N last weekend and saw probably a dozen copycat books and series on the shelves. Cover art of vampires & witches with sultry looks between male and female. The craze may die out sooner than later as the audience changes and wants something with a little more depth...but at the same time, this audience is the audience that's been reading classics for ages in the romance vein of Jane Austen or the gothic horror line of Frankenstein & Dracula. So I think this audience may latch onto this melding and love it for a long while.
