OK, so I'm curious about two things.  First, I wonder how many people are still frequenting this board.

Second, and most importantly for this post, I am curious about how this particular audience has accepted or reacted to the Stephanie Meyer phenomenon.  I've only read Twilight thus far (about two chapters into New Moon, but too busy with school right now) and I did really enjoy it.

For me, the story was definitely more geared towards the female persuasion, which is fine...she was  writing to her demographic.  Even with that in mind, I still readily enjoyed the book and had a lot of fun with the concepts, the characters and the plot.  There story was wrapped fairly tight though there were a few places I would have liked to have seen the pacing change...and the ending felt a little bumpy.

But overall, it was fun.

Anyway, I figured this audience was well suited to a Twilight discussion and frankly I was surprised not to see it mentioned.

So...what did you think?

well, to your first question, this forum has been pretty dead recently. your posts today were the first in over a month. but, there have been a few people who occasionally log in to see what is new.

and to Stephanie Meyer, I actually have nrver heard of her.

You read the THIRD book FIRST?  Smiley.

I actually read the entire Twilight series recently, and found them enjoyable. I agree with you that it is writen with a more "romantic" touch, and the characters to me seemed a bit overly motivated by feeling Wink. Bella Swan drove me absolutely nuts. I think she was a bit too dependent on stronger characters (and her whining got on my nerves).

But overall I think the action scenes were well paced and highly entertaining.  I just wish there were more of them...

OK...yes, my bad.  I said "Eclipse", but meant "Twilight."  I've modified my original post accordingly.  Sorry.  My wife had Eclipse sitting on our desk at the time I was posting and I must've been distracted.  That's my excuse.

I will probably go through the remaining books this summer and (once my wife finishes it) read the fourth book coming out this summer.

I think the characterization was great.  The focus was definitely more on the relationships and the characters than the action and intense world of the vampires.  I don't think the approach was wrong or bad...just different.

And apparently it was different in a way that an audience wanted because it's been successful.  It's funny...I was out at B&N last weekend and saw probably a dozen copycat books and series on the shelves.  Cover art of vampires & witches with sultry looks between male and female.  The craze may die out sooner than later as the audience changes and wants something with a little more depth...but at the same time, this audience is the audience that's been reading classics for ages in the romance vein of Jane Austen or the gothic horror line of Frankenstein & Dracula.  So I think this audience may latch onto this melding and love it for a long while.

Well...I still haven't gotten into book 2, but my wife picked up book 4 over the weekend and is having fun pushing through it.

One of these days I'll get into the series.

I don't know that I will read it, maybe someday. My wife finished the last book a couple of weeks ago.
